Roofing Service FAQ

We are licensed by the states of Pennsylvania as a roofing contractor. Our insurance covers both workers compensation and liability.

No, we provide written estimates free of charge.

There are several factors that determine cost of your new roof. Those include the professionalism and quality of your roofing contractor, the type, brand, and grade of roofing shingle that you select, the size of the roof as well as the slope and shape of your roofline.

Don’t choose your roofing contractor based on cost alone! Yes, price is a factor, but there are many other components to consider in getting the quality roof that your home deserves. Remember that Roofing Contractor workmanship and high-quality roofing materials have significant value. Simply hiring the cheapest roofing contractor could end up costing more in the long run if you need more frequent repairs due to shoddy work, as well as the need for an earlier roof replacement.

Lesher Roofing and Siding can provide a no-obligation roofing estimate to get a fair and accurate cost for your unique home’s needs.

It depends on the workload and weather. Unfortunately when rains come and people need us the most, we are the busiest. During some of those times it can take roofers weeks to get to a job, but no matter how busy we are, we are prompt with returning phone calls and letting clients know how are schedule looks.

As one might expect, there are multiple factors that affect all roofing projects – weather, if there is a second layer to remove, flashing issues, and more. But overall, our professional roofers at Lesher Roofing and Siding can be completely finished with your new roof – from taking off the old roof to cleaning up – in four to five days, depending on the above factors.

Our crews are very efficient in the roof removal, new roof installation, gutters, and clean-up. Our professional roofers are trained to stay on schedule, handle city permits, and ensure your complete satisfaction with your roofing installation. These factors take coordination, and at Lesher Roofing and Siding, we pride ourselves in being organized, efficient, and professional.

No. Interruption to normal daily activity is minimal
Since roof replacement and roofing repair can be a noisy and messy process, you may wish to consider going somewhere else for a few hours once the roofing contractors begin pulling off the old shingles to avoid the noise. Consider your pets as well. Unfortunately there’s no way around this, but we do our best to minimize inconvenience during this roofing process.

– Park your vehicles in the street or down the block. The roof removal trucks will need to occupy your driveway, and relocating your vehicles helps keep them safe and out of the way of stray shingles and nails. We are very efficient in our clean-up, and use mobile bins to collect shingles and materials, so you won’t have a big dumpster on your property for a few days – we remove this dumpster at the end of every work day.

– While we have done thousands of jobs without issue, we still encourage customers to protect any item that has high value. Since we will be literally walking on your roof, the vibrations could upset something that is unsecure.

– Cover your swimming pool if you have one. If you don’t own a pool cover, we will place tarp over it.

– Cover or move anything of value from the yard. We’re not as familiar with your yard as you are, so either move or alert us to any item we need to avoid affecting.

– We will take all precautionary measures to protect the items on your property – from covering items with tarp in the garage or yard, to using a blower to remove any residual dust, If you have a decorative driveway or sidewalk, we’ll take care to protect it from vehicles, debris, and footsteps.

Roofing shingles and wood shake usually have a 15-to-30 year lifespan, depending on the quality of the original shingles, how well the roof was installed originally, and the location and tree cover of your home.

A Pennsylvania roof is subject to weather extremes, wide temperature swings, snow, ice, hail, ice dam issues, direct sunlight, wind, and even poor deck ventilation – all of which play a part in the longevity of a roof. These extreme conditions are a perfect illustration of why it’s so important to choose an experienced and professional roofer that does the job with precision and chooses the best roofing materials.

The roofing shingle manufacturers we use today offer long-lasting warranties. We advise our customers that 12 years is a good guideline to consider a replacement, but again it depends on the above factors.

Here are some issues to watch for:

  • Evidence of water leaks on your ceiling (water spots/discoloration)
  • Discolored or cracked interior drywall
  • Curling shingles
  • Hail / wind damage
  • Loss of the asphalt granulation / bald spots on the shingle
  • Decayed shingles
  • Cracked / Damaged / Missing shingles
  • Flashing that is missing or rusted
  • Missing, cracked or curling shingles
  • Blistering or peeling paint
  • Shingle, sheathing or siding decay
  • Leakage in the attic after heavy rains
  • Stains on interior walls or ceilings
  • High energy bills

If your residential roof has any of these issues, or is over 12 years old, we encourage you to call us out for an inspection. Not all damage is visible to the untrained eye based on the ground, and having a professional up on the roof for a closer inspection can spot any damage early enough to avoid expensive repairs down the road.

Not necessarily. Leaking can result because some flashings have come loose or because a section of the roof has been damaged. A roof failure, however, is generally irreversible and results from improper installation or choice of materials, or from the installation of a roof system inappropriate to the house.

It’s covered. The shingle manufacturers we work with offer long-lasting warranties, and most are transferable to any new homeowner for a small fee. And that’s just the shingles.

We take great pride in our workmanship, and have done thousands of roofing installations without issues. But if any leaks came about, we would repair any leak and any damage to sheetrock, insulation, or paint.

Our warranties and commitment to professional craftsmanship are how we’ve earned the trust of thousands of customers in Pennsylvania, and we look forward to speaking with you about your roofing and exterior needs as well. Feel free to contact us for a no-obligation consultation, and learn why Lesher Roofing and Siding is considered one of the best Pennsylvania Roofing companies!

If your downspouts and gutters are in good shape, our Lesher Roofing and Siding contractors can simply work around them. And we won’t remove and reinstall them once your roof is complete to avoid damaging them. However, if your gutters need repair or replacement, we can provide this service too.

Whatever you think will look good on your home. Putting a roof on your home is not only an important financial decision, but it has an important aesthetic value for you home too. When you drive up to your home, you say to yourself “that’s a nice looking roof.”

The color of roofing material should blend with and compliment your home. It should not be the focal point though.

We will inspect your home to determine the best methods, materials, warranties, and prices for your individual needs.

Yes, but the preferred method is removal. Removal allows for inspection of the substrate, and the elimination of any wet, rough, and/or unstable existing materials.

Material warranties are usually issued by the manufacturers for periods of five (5) to forty (40) years.

We can install a roof year ‘round, with only minor adjustments due to severe weather conditions.

All debris is taken to the landfill and disposed of properly.

Cleanliness is very important. Yes, we clean our work area and the surround yard area at the conclusion of every workday.

Dark shingles should last as long as lighter shingles given that they are installed on a house that has a properly vented attic. Proper attic ventilation is the key component to a longer lasting roof.
Basic shingle types are:

cheapest shingle on the market

  • Has a single layer minimum coverage
  • Good for customers primarily concerned with price

Dimensional / Architectural Shingle (30 years)

  • Has a double layer minimum coverage
  • Higher quality shingle composed of two layers of material per shingle

Dimensional / Architectural Shingle (40 years)

  • Minimum double layer coverage
  • High quality, thick shingle composed of two layers of material per shingle

Gutters should be cleaned at least once in the summer and twice in the fall.

Most work should not be do-it-yourself. Professional roofing contractors are trained to safely and efficiently repair or replace a roof. Novices can harm a roof with improper roofing techniques and severely injure themselves by falling off or even through a roof in need of repair or replacement. Homeowner maintenance should be confined to roof inspections in both the fall and spring to check for cracked or curling shingles, and to cleaning rain gutters filled with dead leaves and other debris. If you must see the roof for yourself, use a firmly braced or tied-off ladder equipped with rubber safety feet. Wear rubber-soled shoes and stay on the ladder (and off the roof) if possible.
Yes! It is important to keep heavy snow off your eavesdrops and cleared out of your ridge vents.
The ridge is the top of your roof, which runs level to the ground (does not have slope). The ridge is usually covered with ridge caps (short shingles laid in a straight line) or, preferably, with a ridge vent.

A valley is created when two main roof decks intersect each other. The resulting junction resembles a valley.
